Youmzain prepared for King George challenge
22/07/2010
Jaber Abdullah’s Youmzain has been declared by trainer Mick Channon for the Group One King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.
The seven-year-old will face six rivals including Derby hero Workforce, Hardwicke Stakes winner Harbinger and Cape Blanco, successful in the Irish Derby.
Youmzain, a dual Group One scorer himself, has run twice before in the King George, finishing third in 2007 to Dylan Thomas and second a year later to Duke of Marmalade.
The son of Sinndar looked right back to his best under Richard Hughes when going down by just a nose in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud last time out and the same jockey has once again been booked for the ride.
Rabbah's racing director Bruce Raymond said: "Youmzain is very well in himself and we are looking forward to him taking his place in the line-up at Ascot.
"The fact that there is only a small field is not ideal but as long as there is a strong gallop - which you'd hope for in a Group One - that shouldn't be a problem.
"He normally makes things exciting for us, let's hope he can again on Saturday."
